Don’t know how to sail? It doesn’t matter.

When people first hear about chartering a boat, they often react the same way:
“That sounds amazing, but I have no idea how to sail.”
“Isn’t that just for people who know how to handle a boat?”
“Maybe one day… when I feel brave enough.”

And just like that, the idea – chartering a sailboat – gets placed on a mental shelf labeled “someday” or “not for me.”

But the truth is very different: chartering a sailboat is for everyone.
You don’t need a captain’s license, you don’t need to understand the winds, and you certainly don’t need to know your knots.
You don’t need to know how to sail – you just need to know how to enjoy yourself. Leave the rest to your skipper.

The Sea Without Prerequisites

In a world where everything has to be learned, planned, and organized, the idea that you don’t have to know anything – yet you can experience everything – almost sounds suspicious. And yet, that’s exactly what chartering a boat with a professional skipper offers: the full experience of the sea, without the responsibility of knowing how the boat works.

You are the traveler, the guest, the explorer.
You decide whether you want to swim more or rest more, spend the day in a hidden cove or head to a seaside restaurant in a small island village.

The Skipper Steers the Boat – You Steer Your Time

When you charter a boat with a skipper, someone else takes care of all the technical, safety, and navigation details. The skipper knows the routes, the most beautiful bays, how to read the wind, how to maneuver in port, and where to anchor.

You don’t need to know any of that.

Instead, you get to focus on what you want your day to look like: maybe a morning coffee with the sound of waves in the background, lunch on deck with a view straight out of a screensaver, or a quiet afternoon under the shade, reading a book.

Or maybe all of it – followed by a midnight swim in a softly lit bay.

Going on a Boat Isn’t Entering a “Nautical World” – It’s Escaping Into Your Own

There’s a certain mystique around “yachting,” as if it’s a closed club reserved for seasoned sailors and boat owners. But that’s not reality. More and more people head out to sea with zero prior experience – and come back feeling like they’ve lived something truly special.

In fact, first-timers are often the most enthusiastic. They arrive without expectations – just pure curiosity.

The Most Important Thing You Bring on Board – You Already Have

You don’t need experience.
You don’t need technical knowledge.
You don’t need special equipment.

But you do need a few simple things:

An openness to something new – because a boat isn’t a typical apartment.
A willingness to slow down – because out here, there’s no rush and no rigid schedule.
A love for simple pleasures – coffee in your swimsuit, sun on your shoulders, salt in your hair.

If you have that, you’re ready.

And what do people most often say after they thought “charter isn’t for me”?

“Why didn’t we do this sooner?”
“It sounded like an adventure – it turned out to be the best vacation we’ve ever had.”
“It didn’t demand anything from me – it only gave.”

Don’t know how to sail? That’s perfectly fine. You’re not alone – and you’re no less welcome.

This vacation doesn’t require your expertise. It only asks for your presence.
And if you know how to recognize a moment of peace, appreciate a sunset, and enjoy simplicity… then you already know everything you need.

The boat is waiting.
The sea is calling.
All that’s left is for you to say yes.

Gulet Cruising – A Magical Synergy of Nature and Luxury

An experience like this becomes possible with a gulet cruise. For those who want to know more, a gulet is a traditional vessel powered by both an engine and the strength of the wind, adorned with simple yet striking sails. As it glides across the sea, typically ranging from 14 to 35 meters in length, your role is simply to enjoy the comfort of its interior — designed in a style that blends simplicity with the refined elegance of maritime hedonism.

The elegance of the interior extends to the exterior, especially the front deck, where you’ll usually find rows of sunbathing mattresses inviting you to feel every touch of the sun’s rays, while tiny sea droplets dance in the wind around you. These are the kind of cinematic moments you’ll want to remember forever.

Most importantly, this type of journey is perfect for bringing families and friends together. While adults finally unwind into well-deserved relaxation, children will surely remember forever the magic of spending days on a boat that feels like something straight out of an animated film.

There’s no need to worry about safety — gulets require a full professional crew who take care of every second of your journey, allowing you to enjoy a truly royal treatment for both body and soul.

Gems of the Adriatic: The Most Beautiful Hidden Beaches

“It may be ours, but it’s the most beautiful!” — a phrase often heard in everyday speech when praising undeniable beauty. The same could easily be said about the Adriatic coast, which is filled with hidden coves and beaches, each with its own charm and a completely different experience to offer.

These secluded oases are almost impossible to reach without a boat. And even when access on foot is technically possible, it usually involves long walks, climbing and descending steep, challenging cliffs. To make sure you’re left breathless by the beauty of the beach itself — not by the physical effort of getting there — exploring by boat is the best option. If you’re looking for a holiday away from constant crowds and noise, here are some of the most beautiful spots just waiting for your anchor.

St. Jerolim: This small island within Brijuni National Park is a true gem, perfect for day trips focused on swimming and relaxation. You can reach it with your own boat or via organized excursions from Fažana or Pula. Its coastline is just 1.16 km long, so one day is enough to explore and find your own little corner of the island. It was named after the Church of St. Jerome, which was destroyed during stone quarrying, and today only the foundations remain. Beyond its history, the island offers an unforgettable diving experience thanks to its rich underwater world.

Storišće Beach: At the southernmost part of the island of Krk, not far from Baška, lies a hidden cove made for lovers of simplicity. Steep rocks, dry-stone walls, and plenty of trees surround the area, but the cove itself opens into a clearing covered in small pebbles and a beautiful, gentle entrance into the sea — ideal for families with children or anyone who enjoys spending time in shallow water.

Golden Bay: Another beach on Krk you may know by a different name — Golden Bay is also called Velo Čelo or Biškupići, and it’s located on the western side of the island. The only way to access this beach is by boat. It’s made of fine pebbles and tucked beneath a massive pearly cliff whose summit is home to griffon vultures — magical, isn’t it? Two caves nearby add even more drama and beauty to this already impressive setting.

St. Ivan Beach: At the foot of one of Cres Island’s steep cliffs, directly below the small village of Lubenice, lies a white pebble cove considered one of the island’s most beautiful beaches. It looks like something from a movie scene, and whether you hike the hill path from Lubenice or arrive by boat, that cinematic beauty becomes your reality.

Krcalo Beach: In the village of Jakišnica on the island of Pag, you’ll find this small beach — perfect for escaping Pag’s famous nightlife. Reaching it requires passing through olive groves and rocky terrain, or, of course, arriving by boat. Either way, the effort ensures peace and total relaxation.

Betina Cave Beach: Dubrovnik is famous for its rich culture and history, and that heritage extends to its beaches. This hidden gem is named after Dubrovnik scientist Marin Getaldić, affectionately called Beta, who once used the cave for his scientific experiments in optics. The beach reflects Dubrovnik itself — protected and defined by its difficult access, which guarantees very few visitors, tranquility, and a hedonistic moment where you’ll feel as though this divine creation exists just for you.

These destinations are just some of the treasures the Croatian coast offers to lovers of boating adventures. Whether you choose an organized route or a private boat rental, we’re here for you. Let us be part of your dream holiday — one you’ll return to again and again, in memories, stories, or in real life.

Don’t let procrastination steal your chance to discover Croatia’s natural beauty — set sail for the most unforgettable summer experience yet.

10 Surprises on Your First Sailing Trip

1. The rocking of the boat is magical and strange

There is nothing like it on land. In the first few minutes, it may feel unusual and slightly unsettling. But soon you will realize it is a rhythm that calms you, connects you with the sea, and gives you a sense of freedom. As the days go by, you feel that gentle rocking becoming the soothing rhythm of your morning coffees, afternoon reading, or even evening relaxation before sleep. The motion of the boat has the power to calm the mind, and many first-time guests discover they sleep better than ever.

2. The smell of the sea is addictive

When you first smell the sea, you’ll realize it’s not just the “smell of water.” It’s the smell of freedom, adventure, and vacation. It’s always present — even when you’re in the harbor, the waves bring freshness and energy that instantly “transport” you into another world. That smell becomes a signal that you’re in a place where everything moves a little slower and priorities are simple: enjoyment, relaxation, and discovering new coves and beaches.

3. The view of the horizon is endless

When you find yourself in the open sea for the first time, the horizon seems infinite. The sun, waves, and sky create a scene you can’t replicate in a hotel or on a balcony. That feeling of freedom, standing on deck and looking into the distance, is almost meditative. Soon you’ll notice that each day brings a new perspective: morning light, afternoon light reflecting off the waves, or a sunset painting the sky in shades you can’t capture with a camera.

4. Every day brings a new destination

On land, we plan itineraries and travel for hours to reach somewhere. On a boat, each day can be a new story. You can decide whether to stay in a peaceful bay all day or sail to a lively island with a local tavern. That sense of control over your own rhythm and destinations completely changes the way you experience a vacation. You set the pace and direction, and each day brings a new dose of excitement and discovery.

5. The sound of the waves becomes your melody

In the first moments, you might not pay attention, but very quickly you realize the sound of the waves becomes the soundtrack of your day. It can lull you to sleep, calm you, or inspire reflection. Even when you are in a harbor or a quiet bay, the waves constantly create a soundscape that becomes part of your experience. The sound of the sea creates a feeling of connection with your surroundings that you can’t experience in a hotel room.

6. The sun warms you in a way you didn’t expect

On a boat, the sun is not just a source of warmth, but an experience you feel with your whole body. A light breeze, sunlight reflecting, and the feeling of freedom give every moment a special energy. After a few days, you’ll notice how your body and mind adapt to this natural rhythm. You’ll spend more time on deck than indoors, simply enjoying every ray of sun.

7. Sometimes small things feel huge

Anchoring in a hidden bay, your first dive from the deck, or finding a swimming spot where you are the only guests — small things on land might not feel so significant, but here they gain a completely new dimension. Every detail becomes an experience you remember: the smell of the sea after swimming, the feeling of sand under your feet, or laughter while balancing on deck. These small things build memories you’ll carry with you for a long time.

8. Your friendships and connections grow stronger

Sailing is not only about the sea and wind — it’s also an experience that connects you with the people you sail with. Sharing the deck, laughing while trying to coordinate maneuvers, cooking together and preparing meals — all of this creates special memories. You’ll realize you value simple moments and shared experiences more than you ever could in a hotel or apartment.

9. Time takes on a new rhythm

On a boat, you’ll forget about the standard clock and fixed schedules. Breakfast can be at 11:30, lunch at 17:00, and dinner at the moment of sunset. This new rhythm teaches you to enjoy every moment, not to rush after plans, and that luxury is simply being present. The more days you spend at sea, the more you’ll miss it when you return to land.

10. You are part of the story, not just observers

In the first few hours, you might feel like guests who are observing. But very quickly you’ll realize you are active participants in the experience. The sea, sun, wind, and boat together create a unique story in which every wave, every bay, and every moment of sailing belongs to you and what you want to experience. This connection with nature and the moment is something you can’t experience anywhere else — and that is the biggest surprise that will win you over.

Your first time on a boat opens your eyes to things you didn’t expect: the rhythm of the sea, the scents, freedom, and the beauty of spontaneity. You don’t need to know how to sail to enjoy it. It’s enough to be present, open to new experiences, and ready to surrender to the moment. Sailing is more than a trip — it’s a new way of looking at a vacation. And once you try it, you’ll realize that a holiday on land can’t compare with the feeling a day on a boat gives you.

Dive into a luxury adventure: Private tours and gulets

When we imagine the ideal trip, we are often captivated by images of beautiful beaches, turquoise seas, and spectacular sunsets. In this daydream, the Adriatic coastline holds a special place, and Croatia, with its exceptional natural beauty, makes the dreams of many travelers a reality. But how can we make this dream even more spectacular? The answer is gulets. Allow us to take you into the world of gulets on the Adriatic, where luxury travel, tradition, and the wonders of nature converge to create a unique experience that you will remember forever.

Tradition and luxury in harmony

When you think of cruising, you probably first picture massive cruise ships with hundreds of passengers. What if we told you there is a way to experience the same magic of cruising but in a much more intimate and authentic way?

Gulets, traditional wooden boats with a rich history, represent the perfect blend of tradition and luxury on our beautiful Adriatic Sea. Once used for fishing and cargo transport, these boats have evolved into elegant and private vessels that offer a unique sea-going experience. What sets gulets apart is the fusion of their rich history with modern comfort. Instead of hundreds of passengers, a gulet typically accommodates around ten people, making your journey very intimate and exclusive.

The captains and crew of gulets are not only experienced sailors but also passionate enthusiasts who will help you discover local culture, tradition, and natural beauty. With them, you will explore hidden coves and islands, connect with local residents, and uncover the stories behind each place you visit. This combination of tradition and a modern approach makes gulets the perfect choice for travelers who want to experience Croatia in a unique and unforgettable way. Your gulet adventure will be filled with the enchantment of history and the beauty of nature, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

One of the greatest advantages of gulet cruising is the flexibility of routes. You can explore hidden coves and islands that are inaccessible to larger cruise ships. Your captain will guide you to the most beautiful destinations, and you will have the opportunity to explore natural wonders and local cultures at every turn.

Gulets are equipped with all the necessary amenities, including spacious cabins, an outdoor restaurant, sun decks, and even water sports. You can relax on deck with a glass of wine, dive into the crystal-clear sea, or explore fishing villages along the coast.

Traveler experiences with gulets – Frequently asked questions

Through our experience in collaboration with gulets, we have noticed certain things that our travelers frequently ask about and consider important. One of the most common questions relates to the comfort and accommodation on the gulet. Our clients want to know how spacious the cabins are, the quality of the beds and equipment, and whether there are private bathrooms. Here, we are always honest – cabins on gulets are comfortable, but since the boats are compact, don’t expect huge spaces. However, all cabins are equipped with basic amenities to ensure a pleasant stay at sea.

Cabins on gulets are designed for a comfortable stay at sea, so you will find everything you need for a good night’s sleep and refreshment. Quality mattresses and bedding provide comfort, while private bathrooms are equipped with showers, sinks, and toilets. Despite limited space, cabins are functionally arranged, with sufficient storage space for personal belongings.

Also, travelers often ask about the food on gulets. We can confidently confirm that the crew takes care of guests’ meals and strives to prepare delicious dishes, including local specialties. However, it’s important to note that the menu may vary depending on the region and the gulet’s captain. We always encourage guests to inform us in advance of their dietary preferences and allergies so that we can accommodate them as much as possible.

As for activities on the gulet, many travelers inquire about the possibilities for diving, snorkeling, and water sports. Here, gulets stand out because they are equipped with all the necessary equipment for such activities. Captains often organize diving at interesting locations and provide equipment for exploring the underwater world of the Adriatic.

Advantages and disadvantages of gulets

While we strive to provide the best possible experience for our travelers, it’s important to highlight some aspects that define the advantages and disadvantages of gulets as an option for your summer vacations. One of the main advantages of gulets is the exclusivity and intimacy they offer. A smaller number of passengers creates a personal and warm atmosphere where you can get to know other guests and the crew more quickly, potentially resulting in lasting friendships.

However, with a smaller number of passengers comes a higher cost per person, which can be a challenge for those with limited budgets. Think of gulets as an investment in a unique experience that will stay with you for a lifetime. For many travelers, this investment in experience is worth every cent.

Sometimes, we face changes in itineraries due to weather conditions, which can affect planned activities. However, it’s important to understand that gulet captains always prioritize passenger safety and will adjust the route to ensure a comfortable and safe journey. Changes in itineraries often lead to unexpected discoveries and adventures, making your trip even more interesting.

It’s also important to note that cabins on gulets are limited in size, so there isn’t much private space for each passenger. However, most guests on gulets spend a significant amount of time on deck, enjoying beautiful views and socializing with fellow travelers. With a multitude of activities on deck, such as sunbathing, reading books, or enjoying delicious outdoor meals, the lack of space in cabins is often not a decisive factor. Gulets offer an outdoor experience where you can escape from your daily routine and enjoy the natural surroundings.

Private gulet tours: Personalized travel

The greatest advantage of private gulet tours lies in personalization. Your tour will be tailored to your preferences and interests. Do you want to explore hidden coves and islands that are off the beaten tourist path or simply relax on untouched beaches? Perhaps you’re a fan of local cuisine or seeking the excitement of adventurous activities? With private gulet tours, the choice is entirely in your hands.

Flexibility is another significant advantage. Forget about crowds and the rush that typically accompanies group tours. On a private tour, you can explore at your own pace, linger as long as you like at certain places, and delve deeper into local culture.

Comfort is also key. Traveling on a private gulet with a small group makes your experience exceptionally comfortable and relaxing. There’s no need to wait in lines or rush to catch public transportation. On a gulet, you’ll feel at home, surrounded by luxury and comfort, making your vacation even more enjoyable and carefree.

Now that you’ve learned about the benefits of private tours and cruising on gulets, it’s time to plan your next unforgettable adventure! For more information, contact us at info@carpe-mare.hr or at +385 91 516 7851.

Adventure Tour

Conditions for joining the tour: Good mood and research spirit.
Enthusiastically welcome our Adventure tour, something new and interesting, worth seeing.
This tour will absolutely delight you because it will inspire a real adventurer in you.

The tour takes place on the island of Brac where you will stop at places like Smokovlje, a small uninhabited place near Bol and you will have the opportunity to see and explore caves such as the Romantic Cave and Lovers Cave. A little reminder: we are not responsible for all sudden bursts of love and emotion.

We continue in a similar tone of exploring the caves in the bay Spilice where you will get additional equipment with which you will enter the caves, and we must note that the prerequisite is that you know and love to swim.

The caves are not over yet because Monk Seal Cave is waiting for us where you can experience adrenaline jumping if you want.

You have time for coffee and rest in a quiet and clean place called Sumartin, an oasis of peace and relaxation with crystal clear sea.

We will also visit Rasotica bay, hidden from view and crowds, beautiful nature and clear sea. Use the time to swim, take photos, create memories in such beautiful locations.

As on each tour we set aside special time for rest and food. If you want to try local specialties and experience the magic of Dalmatia, you can certainly do so in a beautiful small place called Pucisca or in the bay of Luke.

The island of Brac exudes the beauty of every place, so whatever you visit, you will not go wrong.

Don’t forget that we also have Tatinje Bay in the plan, specifically the Military Tunnel where we will explore Tito’s tunnel.
Behind every legacy of war is a story, and the island of Brac and the island of Vis abound in war tunnels.
In them you can swim, dive and explore them, and your captain will tell you stories and give you information that you will surely always remember.

In addition to exploring and enjoying, you actually have the opportunity to learn something as well.

Return to Bol is in afternoon hours.
